It’s also a way for cruise lines to generate revenue, and with more people feeling like connecting to the internet is a necessity rather than a luxury it can bring in a substantial amount of money. Disney Cruise Line has different Internet plans for you to choose from on their ships through Connect@Sea. You can pick a plan that works best for you based on how often you want to use your phone or other devices while on the cruise.

If just one person in the stateroom wants a drink package, or if the second guest is under 21 years old, it makes the decision a bit harder. Most of the specialty restaurants have an up-charge of $39 a person (a recent increase of $10 per person). Though, this is still a bargain compared to many other cruise lines. Even if the 3rd and 4th guests do not have a package, certain items can be shared.

And while we did post to this site during the trip, it took considerably longer than normal. Speed tests that we performed regularly through the cruise topped out at around 1.7 Mbps. (For reference, the average mobile Internet speed in the United States is around 80 Mbps according to Speedtest.net). In our case, we recently took a 4-day cruise from Los Angeles aboard Discovery Princess — a new ship in the fleet.

Mobile device service is available for use when the ship is at sea, in international waters and in other areas where such use is permitted. All charges will be conveniently billed to you by your mobile device provider. You or your travel consultant must advise Princess in writing of any special diet, allergies or medical needs.
Onboard Activities
Azamara offers Wi-Fi in packages of 60 minutes, 24 hours, or a full-cruise unlimited package. It will cost the difference from a single device plan and the four device plan. Princess could save a lot of questions if they would just publish the MedallionNet costs (price list) on their website.

Previously available for $14.99 per day, the new daily rate is now 67% higher at $24.99. On some cruise ships, the signal has become so much faster you now can stream Netflix from the comfort of your cabin — something that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. I can guide you through the ins and outs of Wi-Fi on cruise ships. Here are five things to know about onboard internet before you set sail. The Sailor app allows guests to manage almost every aspect of their cruise, including check in for their cruise, order champagne and plan their time on shore. Premium internet access is also available, free of charge, to all passengers on world cruises.
If you’re paying for one day and one device, the daily price is 50% more, from $19.00 to $29.99. So while onboard cruise Wi-Fi speeds are getting better, they'll never be as fast as at home, where a hard wire brings the signal straight to your router. But, in the end, there are limits to just how well a satellite system can work.
Starting later this month, Princess Cruises will be increasing the daily gratuities charge, as well as the cost of its onboard MedallionNet wifi. One thing that we’ve noticed over the years is that the wi-fi experience on a cruise can vary based on a number of factors including weather, ship’s position, and the service itself. Our personal experience (covered below), however, was decidedly different.

If you let your AT&T phone roam while you're on a vessel, you'll pay $2.05 per megabyte of data — even if your base plan at home offers you unlimited data. You'll also pay $3 per minute to make a call, $0.50 per text and $1.30 to send a photo. The Unlimited Wi-Fi plan includes unlimited access to websites, email, social media (excludes TikTok) and all apps (but no VPN). The Unlimited Premium Wi-Fi package adds VPN access and streaming. Perhaps the most important perk for many is the Plus Beverage package.
Also through the MedallionClass® app, you can chat/text with your kids, anywhere on board. Children’s menus are offered in main dining rooms and by request at specialty restaurants. Pizza, burgers, hot dogs and ice cream can be found at various dining locations. Complimentary jarred stage 1 & 2 baby food is available, if requested in advance via the Cruise Personalizer. Additionally, pureed fruits or veggies can be requested in the main dining room. When registering for our Camp Discovery Youth and Teen Programs, please add any information you feel would assist our staff in accommodating your child.
The Stay Connected package allows access to popular non-video social media channels. The Basic plan adds web browsing, email and Wi-Fi voice calling. The Premium plan adds video calling and video channels like TikTok, as well as music streaming.
During a 2023 cruise aboard Discovery Princess, we found the service to be slow. Our own speed tests show service in the under 2 Mbps range, with some tests coming in under 1 Mbps. You can choose to either purchase wi-fi on its own or have it included in an all-inclusive package like Princess Plus or Princess Premier (more on these below). When upgrading to Princess Plus, both the first and second guest must select the same pricing option.
A package suitable for four devices, plus streaming and VPN capabilities is available for purchase. It is complimentary for guests in Penthouse and Premium Suite categories and for guests who have reached Diamond level or higher. Princess Cruises' MedallionNet offers a package sold by the day or for the entire voyage. Wi-Fi is also included in both Princess fare bundles, Princess Plus and Princess Premier.
Royal Caribbean has been a pioneer of innovation in the cruise industry, and that is also the case with how the line has implemented Wi-Fi on their fleet of ships. VOOM is the name of their high-speed internet service that the company claims is 6 times faster than any other internet at sea. The technology allows for passengers to use the internet from just about anywhere on the ship as well, so even staterooms should get a great signal for connecting online. However, by increasing the WiFi cost to approximately half of what an entire premium package would cost, Princess Cruises forces guests to purchase items they would possibly never buy. Not everyone wants beverage packages, specialty dining, or, perhaps more controversially, pre-pay gratuities. Guests may call for room service delivery or order through OceanNow® in the Princess® MedallionClass® app at any time of the day or night.
